UNITITY IN DIVERSITY MAPPING PROJECT
YANGON MYANMAR, 2020
Documenting cultural diversity & social cohesion in Sanchaung
A group of 22 young women and men, from different ethnic communities living in Yangon took part in a weekend programme to identify and document cultural assets in their own city. Objective was to gauge perceptions among youth towards cultural diversity, in a fast-changing urban community.
The group of youngsters explored Sanchaung, a diverse inner-city neighbourhood along the railway line and produced visual content – video, photos, app and map – that were shared at a UNESCO-led roundtable dialogue at the Secretariat and are available as free downloads. The map was also painted as a mural under a fly-over.
