CULTURAL MAPPING FIELD SCHOOL

BALI INDONESIA, 2016

Documenting local culture & living heritage in the spiritual village of Nyuh Kuning

1-week summer field school for a selected group of Indonesian students from different disciplines (architecture, journalism, anthropology and business) to identify and document tangible and intangible heritage in Nyuh Kuning, a typical village in Bali highlighting the UNESCO listed Subak irrigation system.

Through a series of guided exercises, lectures and field visits the students developed a deeper understanding of the uniqueness of place and concepts of living heritage. Based on that they created a 2-hour walking itinerary highlighting 31 places of significance that has been published in the form of a smartphone application and an illustrated map.
