CULTURAL VALLEY URBAN REGENERATION PILOT PROJECT

ISTANBUL, TURKEY, 2006-2008

Heritage economics expert in a one-year technical assistance and capacity building trajectory to a newly established team in Zeytinburnu Municipality to develop a pilot project to testcase the newly approved Urban Regeneration Act in Istanbul. The law aimed for a participatory approach to planning and design in historic neighbourhooods and the implementation of the act was tested with an inclusive design and redevelopment process of a public square in Zeytinburnu, a historic neighbourhood adjacent to the old city wall of Istanbul.

Result: Participatory design of public space; PPP financing structure for area based urban regeneration
