Agenda
Community-led effort to identify local character and put up-and-coming district on the map.
Property developer Grosvenor is known for its dedication to history, heritage and culture. In Hong Kong the company supported this collaborative effort to put one of the island’s oldest districts on the map. We collected local (his)tories of places through the eyes of residents and organised a one-month pop-up exhibition to showcase Sai Wan’s oral history in a local brew-pub.
Alongside the exhibition we hosted a variety of community sharing events that brought together different demographics: elderly, young children and a young working population, groups that normally do not meet. Workshops, talks and creative sessions centred around old trades and customs dating back to the days when Sai Wan was a neighbourhood full of small factories, like flower making, printing, wood- and metalwork. More than 200 residents took part in these small-scale events that brought back childhood memories and allowed them to share stories with younger generations. The series of events drew over 2,000+ visitors.

“Our Living Cities philosophy spells out how as a developer we can contribute to building better cities: by being thoughtful in the way we design and use building materials, tenant selection and a concerted effort to connect with the local community.”
