Agenda
Use oral histories as a tool to create community buy-in for an urban campaign
Walk DVRC is a non-profit initiative aimed at pedestrianisation of Des Voeux Road Central, a vital artery in Central Hong Kong with the goal to enhance the district’s livability and competitiveness and eventually create the City’s first business improvement district.
To create community buy-in for their initiative they asked us to engage long-time residents and small business owners and document the ‘human-side’ of the district. We interviewed residents, mapped their favourite places and sentiments. The product was an illustrated map and digital walking route that showcased the stories behind ‘forgotten places’. 5,000 copies were delivered to residents and commercial tenants in the district and a large print-out of the map featured in a busy walkway in the middle of the district.

“Des Voeux Road Central, is the integrator and connector that links all cultural sites in Central. This app&map shows how you can visit all these heritage places by foot.”
